Australian & Scottish Correspondence
These letters, mostly addressed to Mr C N Wawn, are some of the communiques between Mr C N Wawn and the (Northern) Irish Wawn's who had moved to Australia and to Scotland.

1919 June 11 - Letter from DR R N Wawn to CNW
An initial introduction letter from RNW. Confirms his father Robert was born in Strabane (Tullyard is near Strabane). Robert is elderly with failing memory.
RNW says that CNW's brother had telephoned. RNW's brother Victor Aubrey W met a Captain of a vessel in China called 'Wawn'. Mentions a genealogical tree explaining the connection.
RNW speaks of his mother in law, Mrs Syme who is in England looking after her two sons who had been in Imperial Army.
1919 December 12 - Letter from Dr R N Wawn to Dominique Wawn
Copy of a letter sent from DR R N Wawn to Dominique Wawn, confirming 'subscribe' to Wawn Family Records.
RNW states that CNW had stated he can't find a 'niche' into which to fit the Australian Wawn Family.
1920 March 14 - Letter from Dr R N Wawn to CNW
RNW states that he sent the family tree from the ship's Captain in China. Mentions Will of Robert Wawne, proved at York. Mentions photographs of his father and his own family. Mentions a rough tree of RNW's father (Robert) family.
This is a letter from Cecil Wawn, introducing himself to the Brydon's - after seeing a newspaper announcement of Jean Brydon to Harold Evelyn Wawn (Harold was returning from WW1 in Europe and Jean was a nurse on his ship) . Harold was the younger brother of CNW and presumably forwarded this letter to CNW as a way of introducing Cecil W to CNW.

1926 March 28 - Letter from Dr R N Wawn to CNW
Generally about subscription to 'Wawn Family Records'. RNW's father Robert is elderly and in failing health.
1926 August 22 - Letter from Victor Aubrey Wawn to Dominique Wawn
Letter from Victor Aubrey Wawn to Dominique Wawn. Mentions the Sea Captain, Charles Wawn and his father (Robert Spifford Wawn). Mentions that Harold Evelyn W (CNW's brother) who lived in Brisbane had been in touch.
1926 October 18 - Letter from DR R N Wawn to CNW
RNW has received Parts 1 & 2 of Wawn Family Records. Dominique W had written to RNW. Enquiry re Robert Wawne marrying Betty Merry. RNW confirmed his father Robert Wawn, living, is largely illiterate.Robert Wawn is living 'a few miles out of Sydney' (Woollahra).
1927 March 14 - Letter from Strabane Records Office to Mr C N Wawn
Strabane Records Office advises that they cannot assist with any records prior to 1864.
This letter introduces Annie Weir (born in Tullyard, Artigarvan, NI. Now resident in Scotland) to her nephew Dr R N Wawn. She is clearly trying to get in touch with the family. In Dr R N W's letter of October 1926, he did state that Robert Wawn was not in touch with the wider family, due to illiteracy. Annie Weir lives in Kilmarnock, Scotland.
1928 March 11 - Letter from Dr R N Wawn to C N Wawn
Letter from Dr R N Wawn to C N Wawn. Encloses copy of letter from Mary Wawn (Shilliday). RNW's father Robert and his sister Gertrude passed away in 1927. Mentions Wawn Family Records.
1928 June 4 - Letter from Mary (Minnie) Wawn to CNW
This letter is from Mary (Minnie) Wawn (Shilliday) from Cambuslang. She was sister to now late Annie (Kilmarnock) and Robert (emigrated to AU). Her sister Annie has passed away, and she has provided some family information to Annie's son, James.
1928 June 7 - Letter from James Weir (son of Annie) to CNW
This letter from James Weir to CNW gives a very clear account of the generation of Wawn's born in NI in the early 19th century.
1928 June 19 - Letter from Mary (Minnie) Wawn (Shilliday) to CNW
A further letter of introduction from Mary (Minnie), includes details of the loss of her husband John Shilliday and her eldest son (not named in the letter).

This letter accompanies a questionnaire written by CNW and completed, as best as possibler, by James Weir. Mentions anecdotes of Robert Wawn.

This questionnaire about the Wawn family (the NI / Australian generation was completed by James Weir. This and the material above comprises the most significant account of the genealogy of the 'Australian' Wawn's. It would not be possible to piece together as much information as is known about this generation without James' valuable summaries.
